- Greywater from a kitchen sink, hand-wash basin, bathroom shower, and washing machine is channeled through a separate underground PVC greywater pipe system before being discharged at a protected or unprotected outlet into a planted area in the garden. In contrast, wastewater from the toilet is conveyed via a separate PVC pipe system to an underground septic tank.
- The kitchen sink, hand-wash basin, and shower floor all feature a strainer (or drain sieve), followed by a syphon (drain trap). The strainer and syphon perform three key functions:
• Keeping off small particles of food and body hairs from floating into the drain pipe to avoid blockage of the greywater flow in the U-shaped trap pipe or syphon (below a kitchen sink, hand-wash basin, or in the underground of a bathroom strainer).
• Acting as a barrier against unwanted animals entering the greywater outlet and underground greywater pipe, which is especially important for unprotected drain pipe outlets. The most common animals that can enter through drainpipes are snakes, mice, rats, scorpions, millipedes, and snails.
• Blocking bad smells. - Therefore, the strainer should never be removed, except during cleaning. Cleaning, mainly the removal of settled particles and hairs on the sieve or in the strainer, should be done by the tenant regularly, e.g., every two weeks.
- It is not permissible to remove the strainer to thereby convey larger particles and hairs through the drainage. This would inevitably block the greywater outlet in the garden sooner or later.
- Tenants are requested to check the greywater outlets from time to time. There are unprotected greywater outlets, i.e., the blue or grey PVC greywater pipe ends without a strainer, and there are protected greywater outlets with a strainer. Here is an overview of the greywater outlets for each house:
• Plumeria Home: 1 protected outlet east of Plumeria Bungalow, and 1 unprotected outlet northwest of Khilek Pavilion.
• Dillenia Home: 1 protected outlet north of Dillenia Bungalow, and 1 protected outlet northwest of Chom Doi Pavilion.
• Tai Saeng Chan Pavilion (Moonlight Pavilion): 1 protected outlet southeast of the kitchen, and 1 protected outlet east of the bathroom of the Pavilion.
• Lychee Lodge: 3 unprotected outlets southeast of the bathroom of the Lodge, and 1 unprotected outlet southeast of the laundry hut of the Lodge.
• Clerodendrum Chalet South: 2 unprotected outlets south of the kitchen of the Chalet, 2 unprotected outlets south of the laundry of the Chalet, and 1 unprotected outlet southeast of the dining room.
• Clerodendrum Chalet West: 1 unprotected outlet west of the Chalet. - Please find the location of the greywater outlets for each house in this photo album: Greywater Outlet Locations of Each House. Although we have the photos, some greywater outlets are not easy to spot. Therefore, we are happy to show you their exact locations on site. The outlets protected with a strainer should be checked to see if dirt has accumulated, thus cannot pass the strainer and increasingly impedes the greywater flow over time. Both protected and unprotected outlets should be regularly checked to ensure they are free from plants that may let their roots grow to the outlet and into the PVC pipe.
