19 — Water

There are 5 sources of water supply.
  1. Tap water (also called community tap water, village tap water, or governmental tap water): This is water distributed by underground water pipes from a 100 m deep bore at the neighboring village, Ban Pa Tio. All water taps in the interior of the houses and other buildings are connected to this village tap water, hence this water is due for use in the kitchen, bathroom, toilet, and laundry. On the exterior throughout the property, all those water taps with a ceramic pot just below the tap are connected to the village tap water, too. Village tap water is considered drinkable, and we at Baan Sammi drink this water unboiled. However, guests and tenants are recommended to drink bottled drinking water, or the village tap water boiled.
The utility cost of village tap water was listed in the former Table of Rental Rates. However, since the beginning of the Coronavirus Pandemic, utility costs including village tap water have been waived for the tenants and guests (but not for the landlord). After the Coronavirus Pandemic, all utility costs, including village tap water, but except electricity and gas, remained waived (see Chapter 8.5 in Details on Rental Terms). Therefore, we ask tenants and guests to ensure that the taps are turned off completely after use in order to avoid unnecessary additional costs. If a faucet is dripping, we ask for notification so that the seal of the faucet or the entire faucet can be replaced.

  2. Tap water for plant irrigation: This water will be pumped from the small pond next to Clerodendrum Chalet South by two pumps (both located at the bank of that small pond) through an underground pipe system consisting of four major lines. Water only flows when a pump is switched on. Usually, the pumps are switched off and will be switched on upon demand only. All taps in the garden, except those with a ceramic (not concrete!) pot below, are taps due for plant irrigation. Many of these taps are connected with a hose or are next to round or rectangular concrete (not ceramic!) water containers. The small pond with water for irrigation is connected with the public ditch adjacent to the fence along the southern border, hence this water is heavily polluted and be used only for irrigation, but can occasionally also be used for cleaning vehicles (cars, motorbikes, bicycles) and pathways.

  3. Water from our private deep bore: The bore is located next to the small pond with irrigation water; the bore is a little over 100 m deep. Water from this bore will be pumped (on demand, not automatically) by a submersible pump into the small pond (next to Clerodendrum Chalet South), or into the ditch next to Lychee Lodge, from where it can flow into the large natural swimming pond and into other ditches and ponds. This allows us to control the height of the water level of the large natural pond and guarantees that only clear water from the deep bore flows into that pond.

  4. Bottled drinking water: Instead of using the village tap water for drinking, tenants, and guests have the option to get bottled drinking water supplied by a company located in the nearby village Ban Pa Du. Please do take into consideration that we at Baan Sammi do not take responsibility for the purification grade or type of water quality, neither for the supplied bottled water (from private companies) nor for the village tap water (provided by the nearby village, Ban Pa Tio).

The drinking water hut is used for the temporary storage of empty drinking water bottles and crates, which will be picked by the supplier of the drinking water company and replaced with full bottles. The hut is located at the main entrance gate, on the side of Plumeria Bungalow. The hut has two shutters, one outside and one inside the property. Put empty bottles in the hut, also add a plastic bag with the exact amount of money for full bottles, and then order the type and quantity of full bottles by calling the company. Usually, the supplier from the water company comes the same day or a day or two later to take the empty bottles (by opening the outside shutter) and collect the money, and replace them with full bottles.

  5. Bottled drinking water, further options:
    • You can buy your own water supply equipment (e.g., 20-liter water bottles and a dispenser stand), and get water supply from a water refilling station. This is easy if you have a car at your disposal, but not impossible if you only have a motorbike or a scooter at your disposal.
    • Small and large bottles of drinking water can be bought through a grocery delivery service. Please read the chapter "Property Area and Facilities" on the website Baan Sammi Nature Retreat.
    • Small bottles of drinking water can be bought from any grocery shop in nearby villages.
