2 — Report of Your Stay to the Immigration Authorities

  1. Upon your arrival, Khun Sam as the landlord is required by Thai law to report your stay to the Immigration Authorities at Chiang Mai within 24 hours. This requirement applies to non-Thai nationals, so-called "aliens". If a report to Chiang Mai Immigration has already been made for a tenant in Baan Sammi, but the tenant then leaves Thailand, e.g., for a visa run, a new report to Chiang Mai Immigration must be made by Khun Sam immediately upon the tenant's return to Baan Sammi.
  2. For this purpose, you are requested to fill out the form "Name of Aliens in Residence" (TM30), and hand it over to Khun Sam at your earliest convenience on the first day of your stay
  3. Please write all in uppercase letters and in blue ink. For each person, write in a single row, or write in two or even three rows if the column width is too small for your handwriting, or if the data is too long.
  4. The 1st to the 4th columns are self-explaining. Please precede your name with an abbreviated English honorific "MR." or "MS." respectively.
  5. 5th column: Date of arrival in Thailand, not the arrival date at Baan Sammi. The date should be specified in the sequence day/month/year.
  6. 6th column: If you entered Thailand on visa exemption, insert a dash: "—". If you entered on a tourist visa, insert "TOURIST". If you entered Thailand on a non-immigrant visa type O, insert "NON-IM. O".
  7. 7th column: Expiration date, see from your entry stamp.
  8. 8th column: Examples: If you arrive by international flight in Bangkok, insert "BANGKOK", if you arrive by international(!) flight in Chiang Mai, insert "CHIANG MAI".
  9. 9th column: The arrival/departure card (TM6) is the narrow paper strip (usually stapled into a page of your passport). On this paper strip, there is a printed alphanumeric code. Insert this code. The TM6 form has been canceled as of 1 July 2022; therefore, visitors entering Thailand from this date don't have a TM6 card and will insert a dash "—" into the field of the TM30 form.
  10. 10th column: Insert "TENANT" or "GUEST".
  11. This document is NOT to be signed by the tenant/guest but by the landlord, Khun Sam.
  12. In addition to completing the form, handing over a copy of the picture page of your passport is required. A photocopy (black & white or color) is best suited as a copy. Alternatively, a jpg or png file is also acceptable (sent to baansammi@gmx.net), or Khun Sam can take with his mobile phone a photo of the picture page of the tenant's passport.

  13. Processing of TM30 by the Chiang Mai Immigration takes 20 to 50 days, according to experience. The confirmation slip entitled “Receipt of Notification” is an official confirmation of residence for the tenant and is sent by the immigration authorities to Khun Sam by post. A photocopy of the receipt will then be made, which will remain with Khun Sam and the original will be given to the tenant, who should insert this document into his/her passport.
  14. There are situations in which this rather long process takes too long for the tenant. This is the case, for example, if the tenant would like to open a Thai bank account early, apply for a Thai driver's license, or apply for an extension of stay at Immigration. In these cases, the tenant can go to Immigration to apply for residence confirmation (2nd floor at Chiang Mai Immigration). The following documents are required for this:
    ● Passport of the tenant (original and possibly a photocopy),
    ● completed TM30 form (original), signed by the landlord (Khun Sam),
    ● photocopy of the landlord's Thai Identification card, signed by the landlord,
    ● photocopy of the house registration books (ทะเบียนบ้าน), signed by the landlord, and
    ● photocopy of the rental agreement.

  15. When a non-Thai person stays overnight as a guest of a tenant, the tenant is required to fill out TM30 for the guest and, in accordance with section 1, submit this form to Chiang Mai Immigration along with a copy of the guest's passport picture page.

  16. The form TM30 should not be confused with the form TM47, the 90-day report: "FORM FOR ALIEN TO NOTIFY OF STAYING LONGER THAN 90 DAYS (TM47)". Reporting TM30 to Immigration is the duty of the landlord; reporting TM47 is the sole duty of the tenant (or any person staying longer than 90 days in Thailand).
