- The mobile (Wi-Fi) network coverage (4G and 5G) in rural and urban areas of Chiang Mai provided by 3BB (now AIS) is strong. Baan Sammi has robust 4G coverage.
- At Baan Sammi, there are three Wi-Fi network systems for access to the Internet that are available to guests and tenants. This community Wi-Fi or WLAN is unlimited and free of charge. For private LAN+Wi-Fi, see the last section of this post.
3BB router at Clerodendrum Chalet South 1st TP-Link access point at Plumeria Bungalow 2nd Tenda access point at Chom Doi Pavilion - The community Wi-Fi system is operated as follows:
• by 2 TENDA long-range access points, 2.4 GHz, ID: 3BB_BS3, password: 21m2oot83;
• by 2 TP-LINK access points, 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz, ID: 3BB_BS2, password: 21m2oot82;
• by 1 3BB router, 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz, IDs: 3BB_BS and 3BB_BS5G, password on request. - Please, save this post, write down the Wi-Fi network IDs and the passwords, which will give you access to the Internet as soon as you arrive at Baan Sammi.
- The main router (3BB), for the community Wi-Fi, is located in the kitchen of the Clerodendrum Chalets (CC) and serves the area of the Clerodendrum Chalets including the community outdoor seating area. This router is powered by 3BB FTTx GIGA Fiber for downloading 1,000 Mb/s and uploading 500 Mb/s (since 21 March 2022). At the request of a guest or tenant, a LAN connection can be offered at times within this community seating area.
- The first external TENDA Wi-Fi access point is located indoor at the Khilek Pavilion and serves this area, including Plumeria Bungalow, Lychee Lodge, and Tai Saeng Chan Pavilion.
- The second external TENDA Wi-Fi access point is located outdoor at the Chom Doi Pavilion (CDP) and serves this area, including Dillenia Bungalow and the remote hexagonal gazebo.
- The first external TP-LINK access point is located outdoor at the northeastern corner of the Plumeria Bungalow and serves the Plumeria Home (Plumeria Bungalow + Khilek Pavilion).
- The second external TP-Link access point is located outdoor at the western side of Lychee Lodge and serves Lychee Lodge and Tai Saeng Chan Pavilion.
- Internet speed is measured in megabits per second (Mb/s, or Mbps) and can show how fast your Wi-Fi is. Here is what different speeds are capable of:
• 1–6 Mb/s: Wi-Fi speed is basic. You can catch up with friends and coworkers over text and email, but video chat might be spotty.
• 7–13 Mb/s: Wi-Fi speed is solid. This speed is good for one person or two people who want to work remotely or gather together to stream a movie.
• 14–49 Mb/s: Wi-Fi speed is snappy! You can hang with friends or coworkers on a video call or stream multiple HD videos.
• 50–100+ Mb/s: Wi-Fi speed is fast! This speed is good for video chats or streaming HD videos from multiple devices. - At the external 2.4 GHz Tenda access points, the Wi-Fi speed is usually ≤50 Mb/s, whereas at the 5 GHz TP-Link access points, the speed is much higher.
- At the 3BB main router, the LAN speed is 740 Mb/s for downloads and 505 Mb/s for uploads, the Wi-Fi speed is 110 Mb/s for downloads and 85 Mb/s for uploads (measured 6 January 2024).

The above Wi-Fi speeds are based on Ookla speed tests performed in October and November 2024. As speeds typically vary, we cannot guarantee that the above speeds will always be available. If you need higher Wi-Fi speeds temporarily or permanently, we strongly recommend purchasing a prepaid or postpaid offer from one of the 3 major mobile Internet providers. You can find some information about this in the next chapter "Telephone calls, Internet, e-mail and Pocket Wi-Fi". Long-term tenants (1-year contract and longer) have the alternative option of obtaining private fiber optic Internet from 3bb, but we only recommend this for Plumeria Home. Information on this can be found in the last section of this chapter. - Troubleshooting: The Internet is quite stable, but short breaks may occasionally occur. Interruption is mainly caused by fluctuation or short breakdown of electric power (→ Chapter 15 – Electricity). If current fluctuation or power interruption occurs, this could and probably will affect the routers and access points, all are dependent on electricity power (5 V). Most often, the system will reboot and reconnect to the Internet automatically after a short while. If it will not automatically reconnect, the power lines to the router and access points need to be manually interrupted and reconnected after a few minutes (by 1–3 switches) to enable them to reboot. If a break lasts longer than 10 minutes, please, contact and notify us. We will check the signal. In case of a prolonged power break, which is rather rare, the routers do not work, so there is no Internet for the duration of the power break (→ Chapter 15 – Electricity).
- Smart Network Switch: If you depend on a continuously stable Internet (e.g., for viewing videos), then activate the "smart network switch" on your (Android) device (smartphone, tablet, etc.). Choose "Settings" on your device, then "Connections", then activate "Wi-Fi", then click on "Wi-Fi" to open the subpage, then activate "Smart network switch". If active, your device will automatically switch between Wi-Fi and mobile networks to maintain a stable Internet connection. For access to a mobile network, you need a Thai SIM card for your device, either prepaid or on a time contract base (→ Chapter 4 –Phone Calls, Internet, and Email).
- Long-term tenants (2 years and longer) can apply for an exclusively private LAN and WLAN (Wi-Fi) connection, with the highest available speed, if they agree to cover the costs involved. The Internet service providers' payment terms are 1 year in advance. The tenants can choose one of the following Internet options (terms as of 7 January 2024, subject to change by the service provider 3BB without prior notice):
"3bb Giga Fiber Home Broadband", with a router (with Wi-Fi 6) and cable installation, max. download speed 1 Gb/s (= 1,000 Mb/s), unlimited, two options for max. upload speed, monthly and annual price in Thai Baht, exclusive VAT (7%), contract for a 2-year minimum.
• upload speed max. 500 Mb/s, 699 ฿/mth, 8,388 ฿/a
• upload speed max. 1,000 Mb/s, 999 ฿/mth, 11,988 ฿/a
(Attention: 3BB changes prices and conditions frequently!)
The above prices include the provision of the router, the connection of the router to the Internet, and the laying of the cable. Not included are any poles and PVC pipes required for laying the cable underground. An underground cable from the public street to the houses is necessary for Dillenia Home, Lychee Lodge, and Tai Saeng Chan Pavilion. For Plumeria Home, underground laying is not mandatory. The underground installation of the cable from the property border to the house has to be paid by the tenant. Costs depending mainly on distance.
Distances are as follows:
• to Dillenia Home about 200–230 m (657–755 ft);
• to Lychee Lodge, about 80–90 m (263–296 ft);
• to Tai Saeng Chan Pavilion, about 90–110 m 296–361 ft);
• to Plumeria Home, about 30–60 m (99–197 ft).
The cost of laying an underground cable (material + labor) is around 200–250 Baht per meter. Consequently, the following one-off fees must be taken into account; the estimated duration of the installation work in days is noted after the prices.
• Dillenia Home (underground), 40,000–57,500 ฿, 90–120 d;
• Lychee Lodge (underground), 16,000–22,500 ฿, 30–60 d;
• Tai Saeng Chan Pavilion (underground), 18,000–27,500 ฿, 30–60 d;
• Plumeria Home (above ground), 8,500 ฿, 10–15 d.
