31a — Mold and Fungi

  1. The interior of buildings, including all furnishings and wall and floor tiles (but most often material made of wood and leather), can be affected by mold mainly when air circulation is obstructed over extended periods (a week, a month), and especially during the rainy season with high atmospheric humidity.
  2. Always care for airflow: Open the bedroom door (when the air-conditioner is turned off), open the kitchen door, and, most importantly, open the bathroom door as well; since some window openings are air-permeable with mosquito gauze (in the bathroom, kitchen, and living room, but not in some bedrooms if they are air-conditioned), this creates a draft through the entire house. In addition, the movement of air can be supported by ceiling fans and other fans (table fans, floor fans, wall fans), and when the air-conditioner in a bedroom is turned on.
  3. To avoid or minimize the risk of mold infestation when a tenant is absent for an extended period, especially during the rainy season, Khun Sam can temporarily ventilate the rooms of houses. For example, this would be possible during the day for several hours twice a week by leaving the corresponding room doors open and keeping the fans running. However, this requires Khun Sam to be granted entrance to the tenant's home and get the necessary door keys.
